施坚雅（G.WilliamSkinner，1925-2008） 1925年2月14日出生于美国加州奥克兰，1954年于美国康奈尔大学获人类学博士学位，先后任哥伦比亚大学社会学助教、康奈尔大学人类学副教授、教授，1965年起任斯坦福大学人类学教授，1990年起任加州大学戴维斯分校人类学教授。1950年至1951年到中国四川考察，1977年考察中国城市市场。1980年当选为美国科学院院士，1983年至1984年任美国亚洲学会会长，1987年至1989年任斯坦福大学巴巴拉·布朗宁人文科学教授。作品中译本有《中国农村的市场和社会结构》（中国社会科学出版社1998年版）、《中华帝国晚期的城市》（中华书局2000年版），并发表大量研究中国社会、经济结构、社会科学研究、农村和农民、人口、民族、海外华人的论文。

朱爱岚（Ellen R.Judd），加拿大社会文化人类学家。在加拿大的不列颠歌伦比亚大学获得博士学位并在剑桥大学做博士后研究之前，于1974－1977年间曾在北京语言学院、复旦大学和北京大学就读。后在加拿大多所大学任教。目前是马尼托巴大学的人类学教授。1986－1995 年她在山东省进行田野研究，并据此撰写了两部著作和若干论文。两部著作分别是《中国北方村落的社会性别与权力》和《国家与市场之间的中国妇女》。她还主编过《中国改革时代的农村妇女》（《中国人类学和社会学》杂志1999年专刊），并合编过《从事发展事业的女权主义者》（Zed出版社2000年）。基于田野考察和文献资料，她还就中国南方各地（主要是上海、湖南和福建）戏剧中的文化生产问题做过研究。她目前正致力于中国西部农村流动、社会性别、社区结构与妇女网络的一个田野研究项目。
